There's never a dull moment in the Chamonix Valley. There's fun on the slopes in winter combined with music and dancing at apres-ski events. Then a plethora of sporting endeavours in the summertime that usually involve wearing lycra and running for miles and miles and miles.

In essence, there really is something for everyone in Chamonix in all seasons - which is why we run transfer buses from the airport in Geneva straight to Chamonix all year round.

You don't even need to be sports-mad to enjoy the mountains, with everything from cultural walking tours and artisan markets, to trail running races and film festivals rganised throughout the year.

A weekly list of events can be found on the Chamonix Tourist Office website, but when there are key festivites in the Chamonix Valley we will feature them here.

The big events like the UltraTrail and Musilac always attract a huge influx of people in Chamonix during these peak weeks, so our advice is to book up your flights, accommodation and airport transfers as early as you can. There's plenty to keep you occupied and entertained in Chamonix whatever the time of year. Chamonix is home to Europe's highest mountains and is ideally located by the Italian and Swiss boarders. With so much to do and see it's guaranteed you will have a great time but we would definitely recommend adding the following to your 'must do' list:

• Aiguille du Midi: Take the two-stage cable car to the viewing platform at an incredible 3842m, where you will get unparalleled views of Mont Blanc and 360° views of the French, Italian and Swiss Alps. Don't miss The Step Into The Void either!

• Montenvers Railway: Spectacular cog railway from Chamonix to Montenvers, above the Mer de Glace. Experience the heights and sights without the hard work

• Le Panoramic: Restaurant at the top station of the Brévent cable car, with top class classic Savoyarde cuisine and a breathtaking view of the Mont Blanc Massif 

• Grotte de la Mer de Glace: Carved every spring since 1946, the ‘ice cave’ takes three months to make and has in interior temperature of around -2 to -5 degrees Centigrade

• Chamonix Golf Course: Enjoy 18 holes on this challenging golf course with stunning views, or practice your swing and aim at the driving range, open until 19:00 each day in the summer months in Les Praz

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc is one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan towns in the French Alps.

Since the growth of tourism in the early 19th century, visitors have flocked to the resort of Chamonix in their millions, drawn by the breathtaking scenery which surrounds the valley and the myriad of activities which take place in, on and around it.

If you’re an active type, almost every conceivable outdoor pursuit can be experienced around Chamonix – from skiing and ice climbing, to paragliding and mountain biking.

Brave participants can enjoy the thrill of climbing up, sliding down, or jumping off Mont Blanc (at 4810m it’s Europe’s highest mountain), or perhaps the less lofty Le Brévent range, or the Aiguilles Rouges; all within easy reach from Chamonix town itself and just an hour's transfer from Geneva Airport.

Those with more sedate tastes can sample picturesque hiking and snowshoe trails.  The cable cars and cog railways that traverse the entire Mont Blanc Massif strewn with captivating viewpoints lead to many mountain restaurants which can be found dotted around the pistes of the Chamonix Valley.

If all that sounds too much like hard work, Chamonix town itself has plenty to occupy the visitor: super cool art deco hotels, quaint alpine farms and charming baroque churches provide the backdrop to the bustling centre and punctuate a sea of cafes, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Soak up the culture in the Alpine Museum, lose yourself in the shops and boutiques, or soothe away aches and pains in the swimming pool and hotel spas.

News, views and what's new in Chamonix 

The Place Poilu car park is now barriered and there's no turning left to access place Mont Blanc for vehicles arriving from rue de la Tour (next to McDonalds), you have to go down avenue Michel Croz. In fact, driving in the centre of Chamonix is becoming so tricky, it's best to leave the car at home, get a Mountain Drop-offs transfer from the airport and then cycle once you're in resort!

And indeed there's good news for cyclists. The 2km stretch of completely new cycle path from Les Bossons to Les Gaillands has been completed, meaning you no longer have to risk cycling under the narrow railway bridge! This is the first phase of the works needed to be done to properly link Servoz to Argentiere with an 18km-long cycle path to be fully completed by 2019.

A new Centre Bien-Etre has in Chamonix! The team behind the Pre St Didier Thermal Baths just past Courmayeur is behind this new centre in Chamonix. Covering 3000m2 and based right next to the municipal swimming pool and sports centre in Chamonix, this very Italian-style thermal bathing centre will have outdoor and indoor hot and cold basins, jacuzzi pools, saunas, hammams, restaurant and treatment rooms.
